Herma L. Backhus

Herma L. Martens Backhus, 87, of Summerfield, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at the Brandley Hospice Home, Summerfield, Fla.

She was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, and immigrated with her husband Heinz O. Backhus, to Muncy, Pa., in the year 1958.

They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, Feb. 4 of this year.

She is survived by her son, Brent and wife Linda, and two grandsons, Michael and Jonathon, all living in Pennsylvania; a sister, Rosi, living in Rochester, N.Y.; and one brother and sister living in Germany.

Herma enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially tennis and swimming.

She was a great housewife and a great cook of various German meals.

A celebration of the life of Herma Backhus will be held Saturday, Feb. 27 between 6 and 8 p.m. at The Muncy Creek Community Fire Hall, Clarkstown.
