Mary M. Tobias
Mary M. Tobias, 98, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Aline, Snyder County, PA, on Monday, July 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John and Mame (Teates) Folkrod.
She was the widow of Harold A. “Tubby” Tobias who preceded her in death on January 6, 1989.
Mary was a 1937 graduate of Watsontown High School and earlier in life was employed as a weaver by the former Montgomery Mills .
She was a member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at Montgomery and a former member of the former Christ Lutheran Church where she was a member of the church choir and Comedouble Sunday School class. Mary was a charter member of the Montgomery Lioness Club and was involved in the founding of Montgomery Little League. She was a former member of the Lycoming County Housing Authority and had served on the Montgomery Election Board. Mary was a volunteer at the Muncy Valley Hospital and for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. She was active in the Montgomery PTO for over 25 years and had taught many area children to swim. Mary was an avid reader, bicyclist and walker.
She is survived by three children, Richard L. and wife Mary Tobias, Peach Tree City, GA; Peggy T. and husband Charles F Yohn, Jr., Montgomery, PA; Debra T. and husband Wayne Stine, Montgomery, PA; five grandchildren, Christopher and wife Nicole Yohn; Matthew (Heather Meyer) Yohn; Amy Tobias and husband Dr. Cris Elder; Andrew and wife Heather Stine; Rebecca and husband Josh Ferrer; four great-grandchildren, Ilise Yohn; Cort Yohn; Leisel Stine; Adler Stine.
A memorial service will be conducted from the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 with Reverend Viking Dietrich, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 – 1:30 P.M. at the church.
