Elizabeth J. “Betty” Shively

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Shively, 91, of Montgomery, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 at her home.

Born November 17, 1927 in Juniata, she was the last of eight children born to the late Millard and Ethel (Smiley) Fern. She and her husband, John W. “Jack” Shively, celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death Oct. 4, 2006.

Betty was a graduate of Bellwood Antis High School and the Lock Haven State College. She worked as the elementary librarian in the Muncy Area School District for many years.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy.

She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, music and storytelling. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are four children, John C. and Peggy Shively, of Trout Run, Samuel D. and Brenda Shively, of Montgomery, Darlene S. and Charles “Pete” Waldron, of Pennsdale and Eric B. Shively, of Grafton, WI; 11 grandchildren, Natalie Route, Elizabeth Gizenski, John O. Shively, David Shively, Paul Shively, Heather Post, Amy Grim, Lucas Shively, Nathan Shively, Benjamin Shively and Megan Shively; eight great-grandchildren, Cody Hartford, Blake Hartford, Charles Gizenski, Vivian Gizenski, Sebastian Shively, Ethan Post, Brady Post and Millie Grim; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brior and Braelynn Hartford.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Scott Shively and two brothers and five sisters.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 13 at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with the associate minister, Pastor Caleb Fritz, officiating. All are invited to join the family at a luncheon immediately following the service.

Burial will be held privately in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
