Francis M. Demko

Francis “Fran and Frank” Demko, of Middletown, Virginia, passed on November 1, 2023. He was born in 1942 Allentown, PA and was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He attended Moravian College for two years prior to joining the U.S. Naval Air Corps as an electronics technician in 1962. Fran graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College in 1970, then obtained a MRP degree from Penn State in 1972 and a MSBA degree from Bucknell University in 1990.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Saundra Lee (Tidd) of Greenville, RI, and children: Jennifer Buechler, of Springfield, VA; Todd, of Bayfield, CO; and Craig, of Stephens City, VA; nine grandchildren: Jordan, Jaxon, Jaden, Jessica, Alec, Clarice, Christopher, Eryn, and Landon, and his brother Louis of Wilson, North Carolina. Fran was predeceased by his parents and sister, Lois. He is the son of Helen (Tonay) and Louis F Demko, who played football at Allentown High School and worked at Neuweiler’s Brewery.Fran played baseball with Bogert Builders in Little League, American Legion and High School. He was an avid basketball player on the playgrounds of Lehigh Valley and at CCHS. Fran lettered two years at Moravian College prior to joining the military in 1962.  He was selected for the all-star teams for B’naiB’brith 1960 and North Atlantic Naval District 1964. He continued with basketball until age 47. He started the tough golf game at age 68.He was an Associate County Planner and Planning Director in Franklin, PA.  Subsequently, he joined Pennsylvania Power and Light Company in Montoursville, PA. Frank’s work included community service, economic and industrial development, locating large electric transmission lines, and residential marketing. Following retirement from PPL, he was a substitute teacher, Century 21 realtor, and located cell phone towers in Pennsylvania.He and his wife resided in Muncy, PA for 26 years prior to moving to Ruckersville, VA then to Middletown, VA.  Frank’s past associations included: president of Muncy Pop Warner Football Association, Little League baseball coach, and elementary school basketball coach. He served on the Muncy and Lycoming County Planning Commissions. He was an American Legion member, secretary for Susquehanna Region American Planning Association, member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, past member of the Lions Club, Green County Republican Committee treasurer and administrative church chairman. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending their functions, fishing in Canada, cooking at South Creek Rod and Gun Club, Elimsport, PA, and reading history and politics.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Mountain View Christian Academy, Athletic Dept., 153 Narrow Lane, Winchester, VA 22602; Muncy Booster Club, 200 West Penn St., Muncy, PA 17756 The family received friends on November 7, 2023 at Enders & Shirley Funeral home (endersandshirley.com – 5095 N.
