MSGT Elwood “Woody” Weaver
Retired MSGT Elwood “Woody” Weaver, 81, was welcomed home by his lord and savior on Dec. 13, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Woody is survived by his wife, Vivian Hamrick Dalmas Weaver; three daughters and spouses, Kim Stone and Ron Stone of Lakeville, Minn., Kathy Cobb and Walter Cobb of Greenville, Nc., and Audie Dale and Mike Dale of Raleigh, Nc.; two stepchildren, Gina Dalmas May and her husband, Chistopher May of Norfolk and Pierre Dalmas of Asheville.Woody leaves behind seven grandchildren, Laura Reinke of Lakeville, Minn.; Jennifer Orth of Lakeville, Minn.; Joe Stone of Jackson Hole, Wy.; Connor Wilson of Greenville, Nc.; Nicholas Wilson of Charleston, Ss.; Alex Dale of Raleigh, Nc.; and Aaron Dale of Wilmington, Nc. Woody also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren. Maddy Orth, Jackson Orth, Quinn Orth, Peyton Reinke, Gavin Reinke, Ryleigh Wilson, Lilly Wilson, and Steele Wilson.Woody is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Barto Weaver (2005) of Goldsboro, Nc; his parents, William and Delphene Weaver of Hughesville, Pa.; and his sister, Pat, also of Hughesville, Pa. Woody served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years and retired in 1983. After his retirement in 1983 Woody worked as an independent trucker for 23 years, retiring from that in 2005.Woody was born in Williamsport and grew up in Hughesville, Pa. He joined the Air Force 3 days after graduating high school. As a child, he loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and camping were hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life. Woody served the Air Force at multiple bases including Plattsburg, Ny., Springfield, Ma., Bitburg, Germany, Keflavik, Iceland, and Ubon, Thailand.Woody retired at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, Nc. in 1983. Woody married Vivan Dalmas in 2008. They moved to Vivian’s childhood home in Shelby, Nc. shortly after they married. Woody found his little slice of heaven with Shelby on the farm, mowing the fields with his tractor and lawn mower and keeping their home looking wonderful. Woody was a lifetime member of the American Legion for 56 years. He served in many positions with American Legion Post 82 including Commander and District Commander. One of Woody’s many passions included supporting and promoting Boys State and cooking in the concession stand at the American Legion World Series. Services were held Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Shelby. Graveside services immediately followed the memorial service at the Hamrick Family Cemetery on the farm where Woody resided. A luncheon for all attending the service will follow the burial in the fellowship hall at Aldersgate Methodist Church.Full military honors will be provided by the Honor Guard of American Legion Post 82.
