Helen Martin of Sharpsburg, Georgia died peacefully in her sleep on December 29th, 2023, one day after her 90th birthday. Helen was born in Schuyler, Pennsylvania on December 28, 1933, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Milheim) Cotner. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George A. Martin, Sr., both of her parents, her brother Harry Cotner, her two sisters, Marie (Cotner) Fowler (Muncy, PA) and Dorothy (Cotner) Chreptowskyj (Sarasota, FL) and a son, Jeffrey Martin (Deltona, FL).

Helen is survived by, her sons, George Martin, Jr. (Kelly), Gregory Martin, Sr. (Tracey) and Joseph Martin, and her daughters, Julie Lincoln and Michelle Sherman as well as 12 grand-children (Rachel Martin, Nathan Martin, Kacey McIntyre, Aaron Martin, Emily Franco, Andrew Green, Brandi Sherman, Matthew Sherman, Greg Martin Jr., Josh Martin, Ryan Martin and Luke Martin) as well as great-grand-children (Izabella, A.J, Wesley Jr., Logan, Blake, Ezanna, Ezavion, Ayzen, Hayden, & Hudson).

Helen attended Muncy High School from 1948-50. She started working at Herr’s Ice Cream & Dairy store at age 16 and worked most of her life in a variety of capacities in both Muncy and later in Orlando, FL, where she and her family moved in 1963. In Orlando she entered real estate sales and quickly became a successful real estate agent in the boom days of the 1960’s in Orlando.

Helen was very active in the Special Olympics programs for many years and was considered “Mom” by many of the young athletes. She was also known for her 3,000 calorie, chocolate, peanut butter Easter eggs and she would make several dozen for the Children’s Home at Christian City, and just as many for her family and friends.

But her center of attention was her family and the six children that she and George raised. Her love of family knew no bounds, especially for her youngest and special needs son, Joe, who she loved deeply.

Helen and George attended the “Go Church” in Sharpsburg, GA for many years in person, and then later, every Sunday via the television. Helen looked forward to seeing Jeff again and also being with “Daddy” again after a one-year separation after his passing, one-year ago, after 72 years together in marriage.
