I think winter would be a lot nicer if it would quit masquerading as spring or even summer like days, then reminding us in a forceful way that it is truly only early March! With just two weeks remaining until the equinox, we can hope that the frigid temperatures of last weekend will not return for several months. Of course, this is central Pennsylvania, after all, so another blast of winter is not unheard-of, so we must just sit back and "enjoy the ride!"
How about those Spartans!! What a great testimony to the perseverance and pride of our student athletes! HHS Wrestling coach Steve Budman will be escorting three of his team members to the State Tournament in Hershey. Luke Gorg, Braden Stahlnecker, and Josh Dauberman all have qualified at the Regional level to compete in the top annual event. Be sure to give them all a "shout out!"
It's been rare for HHS to have both a strong wrestling team and a strong basketball program at the same time, but this year all the right things have happened and both the Boys' and Girls' Varsity basketball teams will be going to the PIAA State tournament. The Boys' team won the District title and the Girl's team won every fan's heart with their determination, drive, and skill. While the girls did not capture the district title, they will play Dunmore in the program's first-ever state tournament appearance. I have had the pleasure of meeting all the student-athletes and can tell you that I am proud of each of them! Our community has a real treasure in our young generation.
Hughesville can also boast about our public library and our local historical society. There are programs available at both entities for children and adults and I encourage everyone to visit both places to take advantage of them. Of course, both of them, as well as the East Lycoming Education Foundation, can always put monetary contributions to work, so take a few minutes to log on to your computer and make a donation to each of them as part of the annual Raise the Region event. Wednesday and Thursday, March 8 & 9, are the days for you to help make a big difference for these worthy community organizations. If you check the full list on the website, you will probably find many more that you would like to support! I have trouble making my budget stretch far enough to support all that I would like.
Have a good week next Wednesday is the Ides of March!
