Olympic Soccer fest held at Dome in Muncy Township

MUNCY – The best youth soccer players in the State had an opportunity to train for regional and national recognition on Tuesday, December 28 at the Dome complex in Muncy Township,
Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer brought its elite Under-12 and Under-13 Boys and Girls Olympic Development Program players to Muncy for training at the Generations Sports Complex Dome. “This is the first time an Olympic Development Program Training Center will be held in North Central Pennsylvania,” said Chris Branscome, athletic coach and Chief Executive Officer.
The Olympic Development Program is a stepping stone for youth soccer players with an eye towards regional and national levels of play. “These top-notch kids from North Central Pennsylvania displayed unparalleled talent during a coaching demonstration clinic,” he added. The clinic ran from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Before the clinic began, kids, ages 6-14, were invited to take part in a free indoor 4v4 soccer festival.
The Boys and Girls Olympic Development Program players spent two days in Muncy training on December 28 and 29 at the Dome. In addition to the training, state Director of Coaching Mike Barr led the coaching demonstration clinic and answered questions and answered questions for parents and coaches of youth players. “This is your chance to see top-notch coaching and the best technical skills from the 1999 Girls and Boys Olympic Development Program teams from the North Central region of the state,” Barr announced.
Through the Olympic Development Program (ODP), players are identified and trained at the elite level with the goal of advancement to regional and national teams. ODP players successfully transition to college play and several players have developed into professional players that have represented the United States in the Olympics and World Cup.

For more than 35 years, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer has worked throughout Eastern Pennsylvania to promote, foster and perpetuate the game of soccer to the region’s youth. Through competitions, educational programs, workshops and coaching clinics, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer impacts the lives of more than 130,000 youth soccer players from ages five to 19.
