Local Swimmer Says Farewell

Amy Waldron, Muncy High School senior and daughter of Pete and Darlene Waldron, swam her last meet as a high school student on her 18th birthday. Amy finished her high school swimming career with her best time this year in the 500 freestyle at PIAA State Championships at Bucknell on March 12.
As the only swimmer on Muncy’s “team,” Amy has been practicing with the US Swimming Team in Williamsport every day after school for almost four years. She competed as an independent swimmer at PIAA District IV Championships in two events every year, the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
Twice Amy was the District Champ in the 500 free, took second place two other times, and placed in the top six every year in the 200 free. Her first place finishes in the 500 free guaranteed her a spot at States, and the two years she came in second, her times were fast enough to qualify for the state competition.
Now that high school swimming is over, Amy is looking to perhaps continue her career in college. Penn State Altoona, Wilkes, and Widener are a few schools she is considering attending next year.
