East Lycoming D-12 Majors win opener

By Staff | Jun 29, 2010

East Lycoming pitcher, Alex Welch, kept East Lycoming's momentum going by fanning Nippenose leadoff batter, picked up a grounder and popout to close the inning.

NIPPENOSE – First up to bat for East Lycoming was Nick Yeager who lead off the team with a single and started a three-run first inning in the District 12 major boys all-star play. East Lycoming continued its offense as it defeated Nippenose, 12-0 in five innings.

East Lycoming pitcher, Alex Welch, kept the momentum and recorded five strikeouts in four innings. Welch faced two batters over the minimum prior to being pulled in the fourth as his pitch count neared 50.

The Nippenose defense was able to momentarily stop East Lycoming with a 1-2-3 second, all via strikeouts, but couldn’t hold down East Lycoming’s offense, which seemed to only get better.

East Lycoming posted a run in the third, three in the fourth and five in the final frame.

Matt Shetler opened East Lycoming’s biggest inning with a single and quickly scored when Nate Hampton doubled on the next at-bat. Shetler finished the day going a perfect 3-for-3 while batting in two runs. A popout and walk followed which set Jake Snyder up from the nine-spot with an opportunity to bat some runners home. Snyder posted his first hit of the game as he scored two more runs with a single.
