Indians Remain Undefeated in Heartland III

Muncy 68, Sullivan County 58

Rijad Sabanovich scored 16 points, had eight assists, five rebounds and three steals as Muncy defeated Sullivan County, 68-58, as the Indians remain undefeated in the Heartland-III. Muncy scored 13 straight points during the third quarter as the Indians (5-2, 3-0) built a 19-point lead and handed the Griffins (8-1, 2-1) their first loss. Doug Zehner, who scored a game-high 26 points, secured the win in the last minute making six straight free throws.

Trent Sellers scored 14 points, including 12 in the second half.

Spartans Stop Lewisburg

Hughesville 51, Lewisburg 47

Brett Diehl and Pat James sparked a second-quarter comeback while Ian Bubb hit several clutch free throws in the final minute as Hughesville edged Lewisburg, 51-47 in a big early-season game between district title contenders.

Diehl and James took charge in the second quarter after Lewisburg built a 17-7 lead. The two post players combined for half the Spartans second-quarter points while helping them cut the deficit to one by halftime.

Lewisburg led 36-35 midway through the third quarter but Bubb’s drive put Hughesville ahead to stay and was part of a 12-0 run that lasted nearly eight minutes. By the time it ended, Hughesville (6-2, 2-0) led 47-36 with four minutes remaining.

Bubb was sent to the line for three 1-and-1s in the final minute and each time, he hit the front end. After Travis Conrad hit a 3-pointer that made it 50-47 with 3.6 seconds remaining, Bubb was fouled again and again faced a 1-and-1.
