Spartan Cheerleaders Make History

The Hughesville High School cheerleading squad made history this past weekend as they captured the district title in the first ever PIAA District IV Cheerleading competition. The squad will advance to the state tournament on February 2, 2013. They include from left to right (front row): Carly Sees, Taylor Klein, Brooke Reeser, Sarah Gensel, (center) Bekka Miller, Rachel Reitz, Emylee Shultz, Taylor Hill, Amanda Shoemaker; (back row) Sparticus, Naucoma May, Alexis Parker, Sydney Hampton, Savannah Miller, and Cortney Peasley.

A newly established PIAA District IV Competitive Spirt (Cheerleading) Championship was held this past weekend at Shamokin Area High School. Local teams had the opportunity to showcase their talents and to qualify for the state championship to be held in Hershey in February 2013.

The Hughesville High School cheerleading squad took the honors as being the first cheerleading squad ever to win a District IV title. Requirements for this competition include cheer, dance, tumbling, and stunting. Hughesville won the Small Varsity category consisting of a 14-member squad. Williamson finished second with Troy at third followed by North Penn.

Williamsport won the Medium Varsity division and Milton won the gold in the Large Varsity. Those teams will also advance to Hershey.
