Area Track and Field Athletes Advance to States

Montgomery Red Raider, Kiana Gough, qualified for state competition after placing first in the pole vault this past Saturday.

Saturday’s District 4 Class AA were held Susquehanna University. The top two finishers and those among the top eight that reached the state qualifying time or distance will advance to the state level this weekend.

Montgomery’s Dominick Galanti won the pole vault after clearing 13’6 while Allyssa Hitesman won the shot put with a throw of 33-9 and her teammate Kiana Gough won the pole vault title at 10-6. Also advancing to the state competition from Montgomery will be Colton Harer who qualified in the javelin with a throw of 177-01 placing him third.

Hughesville Spartans who placed and qualified are the Merrifield sisters. Heather advances after she placed third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.89 and taking second in the 300 hurdles, 46.30. Hannah placed third in the 1600 running a 5:17.67 state qualifying time while teammate Michelle Mostowy took second in the 800 2:20.80 qualifying her. Jay Hiller also ran the 1600 with a time of 4:29.63 and will advance.
