Red Raiders win trip to finals

Montgomery baseball team will try to defend their district title when they play in the finals against top-seeded Canton.
Alex Worthington threw a five-hit complete-game, struck out nine and lifted Montgomery to a 5-1 District 4 Class A semifinal win. The defending district champions will try to defend their title on Wednesday against top-seeded Canton. (score not available at press time.
Four times Sullivan County loaded the bases or put runners on second and third with one out against and four times Worthington left them there.
In the seventh Sullivan’s Lucas Hatton single and Kelby Mullen and Zach Meyer walks loaded the bases. Colton Frye stepped to the plate hitting one into shallow left field. But Red Raider Corey Kriner made a terrific diving catch. Kriner’s big play saved at least one run and prevented Sullivan from putting the tying runner on base with one out.
