Local graduate coaches college
Zachary Sarginger, a 2007 graduate of Muncy High School, finished his second season as an assistant football coach at East Stroudsburg University this fall.
He coached the running backs, and helped ESU’s Robert Healy earn recognition as the PSAC East Freshman of the Year. Healy set the school’s record for rushing by a freshman with 1,129 yards and tied another freshman record with five 100-yard games.
The Warriors finished the season with a 7-4 record, and averaged more than 40 points and 500 yards per game. Their quarterback, sophomore Matt Soltes, was a regional candidate for the Harlon Hill Award, which recognizes the top player in NCAA Division II football.
As an offensive lineman at ESU, Sarginger made 33 starts during his career from 2008 through 2011. He was named to the Northern Tier League first team twice at Muncy an was an All-State selection as a junior in 2006.
