Red Raiders defeat Muncy in quarters

Montgomery 3, Muncy 0

Montgomery pitcher Marcus Bartlett threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Muncy Saturday morning. The Raiders advanced to Bowman Field later that day for a semi-final game against Canton. Bartlett struck out five and won his sixth straight. The senior allowed five hits or fewer in a fifth straight complete-game.

Semifinal

Canton 10, Montgomery 0 (5 innings)

Canton scored two first-inning runs and led 4-0 after two and never looked back as the shutout the Red Raiders in five innings, 10-0. Canton pitcher Chase Pepper threw a five-inning perfect game and struck out 11. The top-seeded Warriors (19-2) advanced to Wednesday’s final against St. John Neumann.

Montgomery Red Raiders have reached the semifinals for a 10th straight season, the longest current streak among District 4 teams in any classification. The Raiders beat Muncy for a second straight time to reach the semifinals.

District 4 Class AA playoff roundup

Quarterfinals

Hughesville 8, Towanda 2

Tyler Mitcheltree, Sean Poust and Logan Bower stole two bases apiece while Zach Fry walked three times and scored twice as the Spartans defeated Towanda 8-2 in the District 4 Class AA playoffs. Hughesville moved on to the semi-finals where it will played Loyalsock Tuesday night at Bowman Field. Score not available at press time.

In the fifth Hughesville rallied as pinch hitter Adam Warburton led off with a single, Ryan McClain followed with a sacrifice bunt that put pinch runner Logan Bower in scoring position with one out. Poust’s single moved Bower to third and a Mitcheltree single scored Bower and Hughesville took the lead for good.

Mitcheltree started the game and threw 4 1/3 strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six. Justin Lambert, who got the win, did not allow a hit over the last 2 2/3 innings and struck out three.
