Red Raiders capture District Title

RUTH FRY/The Luminary Montgomery Red Raider baseball team captured the District 4 Class A championship defeating Mansfield last week at Bowman Field, and honoring their late classmate, Dionna Satteson, tragically killed in a car accident last March.
The Montgomery Red Raider baseball team captured the 2015 Class A District 4 championship defeating Mansfield, 1-0, in a 4-hit shutout last Tuesday while winning their 12th straight game. This is the Raiders second District 4 championship in four years. Dylan Gordon allowed just one run and 10 hits in the past two playoff games as the Raiders headed into the state tournament against District 2 champion Blue Ridge this past Monday. (Results were not available at press time).
Dylan Gordon threw a four-hit shutout while Ray Farr hit a fifth-inning RBI-grounder. Levi Lowe made a game-changing double play in the sixth inning after Mansfield loaded the bases with no outs. Mansfield’s top hitter hit a hard liner down the first-base line when Lowe grabbed it and then stepped on first for the double play.
Farr’s RBI in the fifth inning came after Keanu Sauers drew a one-out walk. Thomas Goetz then executed a perfect hit and run, singling him to third. Farr then hit a hard grounder to second that scored Sauers and gave Montgomery a 1-0 lead for good.
