RUTH FRY/The Luminary In last week's championship game against Milton, Hughesville Legion Post 35 won the West Branch League title and a Region V birth for the second consecutive year, 9-5, at Bodine Park. Championship Game: Hughesville 9, Milton 5

Milton scored four times in the third inning, but Hughesville rallied back to take the West Branch League title and a Region V birth for the second consecutive year, 9-5, at Bodine Park last Wednesday. Tyler Mitcheltree allowed Milton to score only one more time after a Milton runner scored on a wild pitch. Mitchelltree was relieved in the seventh after throwing 134 pitches when the first two Milton hitters got on base. He finished with six strikeouts and five walks. Zach Fry earned the save after shutting down the next three batters he faced with a fielder’s choice and two strikeouts.

Post 35 was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third. Trevor Gagliano (three runs scored) lead off the inning with a single, and Mitcheltree walked to open the inning. Dalton Smith sacrificed them to second and third, and Zach Fry followed with an RBI infield single. Christian Fish later singled a runner home the second run of the inning.

Hughesville continued their rally taking the lead with a five-run fourth with three walks and three Milton errors. Fry drew a bases-loaded walk, while Quinton Kuntz had a sacrifice fly. Two more runs were scored in sixth on Fry’s RBI double and an error. Fry went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and Christian Fish was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Semi-Final: Hughesville 4, Lewisburg 0

Hughesville pitcher Quentin Kuntz pitched a complete game four-hitter as Hughesville defeated Lewisburg with a 4-0 shutout in an American Legion West Branch League playoff game.

In the second inning Andrew Keller led off with a single to left. Tyler Mitcheltree followed hitting a run-scoring triple. Zach Fry kept the momentum going in the third hitting a single and advancing to second on a wild pitch and scoring on Christian Fish’s single to center. Fish later scored on an error and Hughesville leads 3-0. Later in the bottom of the third Fish caught a line drive at first and catching the lead runner off guard tagging him out to get a double play. Hughesville added added another run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk

Kuntz ended the game with his eighth strikeout.

Region V Roundup

Hughesville 4, Greater PIttston 1

Hughesville Legion Post 35 continues winning as they defeated Greater Pittston, 4-1, in the first round of the Regional V tournament in Berwick on Sunday. Quintin Kuntz and Jake Snyder each had two with an RBI while Dalton Smith had two hits of his own. Kuntz pitched eight innings giving up three hits and striking out five. Zach Fry pitched a scoreless 9th inning picking up the save.
