District 4 Class AA Wrestling Championships

RUTH FRY/The Luminary The Max Shnyder District IV Wrestling Scholarships were awarded Saturday night prior to the District IV wrestling tournament championships. The scholarships are based on academic performance, participitation and leadership in athletics, and interest in furthering education. Twenty-eight local wrestlers finished in the top five in their respective weight classes to qualify for this weekend’s PIAA Class AA Northeast Regional tournament this Friday and Saturday in Williamsport.
Hughesville’s Zach Fry won his first District 4 title this past weekend after defeating Sean Kshir, North Penn, by a technical fall, 16-0. Fry’s teammate, Trevor Sones, will also move on to the regional tournament after finishing fourth in the 126-pound weight class. Sones hit a milestone on Saturday winning his 100th career match.
Angelo Barberio was the lone-place winner from Muncy after finishing second in the 120-pound weight class. Montgomery Red Raiders Brandon Daldo, (106), moves on with his 4th place finish along with teammate Lucas Drick, (113), edging Darren Schum of Wyalusing with a 2-0 win for fifth place.
In total five local wrestlers from the area won: Lewisburg’s Jordan Gessner, (120), Zack LeBarron, (138), of Warrior Run; Hughesville’s Fry (152), Montoursville’s Garrett Hoffman (182) and Gavin Hoffman (195).
Nine other local wrestlers placed second in their respective weight class: Muncy’s Barberio (120), Lewisburg’s Brian Friery (113), Montoursville’s Keith Batkowski (145), North Penn-Liberty’s Sean Kshir (152), Charlie Andrews (160), Milton’s Brandon Stokes (170), Andrew Shedleski, Lewisburg, (182), Ben Cerney (220), and Justin Kriner, of North Penn, (285).

Wyalusing won the team championship for the second consecutive year, scoring 130 points. Southern Columbia was second with 127.5 points, and Montoursville finished third with 126.5 points.
