Spartans win on Senior Night

The Spartans edged Muncy, 11-10, on their “Senior Night” with Alex Welch smacking a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first last Wednesday in Hughesville. The Spartans scored eight of their 11 runs with two outs. Five of those runs came in a five-run third inning which saw the Spartans turn a three-run deficit into a two-run lead and never fell behind again.

The Indians led off first at the plate with a double by Jordan King and eventually scoring three runs in the top of the first, but the Spartans took their turn in the bottom half with Zach Fry bringing in Zach Campbell with his RBI single to center-right. Welch followed smacking a home run in left field over the “Green Monster” and scoring Fry.

Muncy took the lead again in the third (6-3) after Nick Palmatier hit a two-run single, but Hughesville rallied in the bottom half scoring five runs taking the lead for good.

Avery Eddy got the save when he came into the seventh inning with one out and bases loaded. Eddy induced a ground ball on a 3-2 pitch allowing a run to score before Muncy’s Cameron Good hit a single to score another run cutting the deficit to just one. Eddy then recorded the last out striking out the batter and stranding the tying run on third. Ryan McClain got the win on the mound for the Spartans while Trevor Gagliano went 1 for 3 with a double and RBI, and Nate Hampton finishing 1 for 3 with a run.

Muncy’s Jordan King finished with a double going 1 for 2 while Nate Paisley and Cam Good each were 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Hughesville scored five runs in the first two innings and Logan Bower and Zach Murray combined on the two-hitter as Hughesville defeated Warrior Run, 5-0. Zach Fry went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk while Trevor Gagliano was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs/

Hughesville 8, Mount Carmel 2

Avery Eddy tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts and no walks and also smacked a double into right field as Hughesville defeated Mount Carmel, 8-2. Zack Campbell led the Spartans going 2 for 4 with two doubles.

Loyalsock 14, Hughesville 4

Hughesville was defeated in six innings by the Lancers, 14-4. The Spartans scored in the top of the first when Zach Fry had an RBI-single into center that drove in Zack Campbell who led the game off with a single. The Spartans scored another run in the top of the third inning after an RBI by Ryan McClain bringing Fry in to home and cutting the deficit to 4-2. Hughesville scored twice in the top of the fifth with two consecutive singles by McClain and Adam Warburton but the Lancers added six more runs in fifth and sixth.

Zach Fry and Nate Hampton had 3 hits each as Hughesville scored 6 runs in the fifth inning and beat Danville, 11-1. Zack Murray got the win on the mound for the Spartans.

Hunter Dunlap went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs edging Millville, 6-5. Andrew Keller was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Muncy while Coleman Good added a double.

Muncy scored nine first-inning runs defeating Bucktail, 14-4. Jordan King, Nick Palmatier and Gage Bender all had multi-RBI games.

Dylan Gordon earned the win on the mound and drove in two runs to help Montgomery get the 5-3 win over CMVT.

Montgomery scored 10 runs in the first three innings in their 11-3 win over Sullivan County. Jensen Drick, Dylan Gordon and Taylor Leblanc all had two hits the Red Raiders, and Hunter Budman earned the win,
