Montgomery’s Forrestal and Hughesville’s 1,600 relay team win gold
The PIAA District 4 Class AA Track and Field championships were held Sunday in Williamsport with area athletes placing in the top eight. The top two place winners and/or qualifying times advances to this weekend’s PIAA state championships in Shippensburg.
Montgomery’s Lexy Forrestal will be heading to the PIAA Class AA State Championships in Shippensburg when she cleared 5’4″ and winning the gold medal in the high jump. Forrestal will be joined by her teammate, Morgan Johnson, who qualified after placing fifth in the pole vault and clearing a state qualifying jump at 10-6. Hughesville’s 1,600 relay team of Jennifer Pidcoe, Alivia Braunbeck, Autumn Avery, Heather Merrifield took home the District 4 gold and advances to the state tournament as they edged the team from Montoursville with a time of 4:03.19. Merrifield also won the 300 hurdles finished second in the 100 hurdles.

Javelin: 6th Samantha Thompson, Hugh, 110-11; 7 Triple jump: 6th Larissa Getz, Hugh, 34-1 1/2; 8 Jessica Umstead, Montg, 33-9 1/4; High jump: 1 Lexy Forrestal, Montg., 5-4; *5 Morgan Johnson, Montg, 10-6.
