Muncy 46, Benton 16
Muncy’s Grady Oden (126) secured the final take down in overtime to get the win in last Wednesday’s preliminary bout of the District 4 Duals. The Indians defeated Benton 46-16 as they advanced to the quarterfinal bout against Central Columbia at Milton this past Saturday. Bryce Vollman followed up Oden’s win with a 1-0 win getting a second-period escape as he rode out the entire third period. Mario Barberio won by forfeit at 138, Christian Good pinned Mason Michael with a headlock in 1:04., and Ty Nixon had four take downs and back points in his 15-4 major decision at 170 pounds. Gavyn Eisenhower, Ethan Gush and Mike Kustanbauter each received forfeits, and Donovan Diehl took down Teaghan Benner at 285-pounds and got the pin in 1:03.

The Muncy Indians advance to the state tournament after their second place finish at the District 4 Class AA Duals this past Saturday. Southern Columbia won the championship match 47-13. The runner-up finish was the fourth for Muncy since 2011. The Indians have never won the District 4 Duals championship. Muncy went 2-1 Saturday beating the eventual third-place team (Danville) and fourth-place team (Central Columbia) before falling to Southern Columbia. Southern and Muncy will both be making their fourth appearance at the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships, which ties them both for the third-most in District 4 history with Montoursville and Line Mountain. Wyalusing (eight) and Towanda (five) have the most appearances at states from District 4.
Muncy will face District 11 champion Saucon Valley in the first round at 4 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Danville earned the district’s third state qualifying spot by defeating Central Columbia for third place, 37-28.
