PIAA Super Regional East Wrestling Tournament

- Caleb Burkhart, Hughesville Super East-4th place
All five wrestlers from the Tri-town area placed in the top four spots this past Saturday at the Super East Regional tournament in Pottsville and guaranteed them a spot on the podium in state tournament which will be held this Friday, March 12, at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Scott Johnson, Muncy sophomore, won the title at 126 after defeating Gable Strickland of Benton in the finals, 8-6. Teammate and senior member, Ethan Gush, also secured his spot on the podium after his fourth-place finish in the 172-pound weight class.
Montgomery’s Devon Deem won the title in the 152-pound weight class defeating Michael Duggan of Boiling Springs edging him by a decision of 4-3. Connor Harer (138) punched his ticket with a third-place finish beating Lewisburg’s Logan Barlett.
Hughesville’s Caleb Burkhart won his spot in Hershey after trailing 4-0 in the blood round before pinning his opponent with less than 44 seconds to go. Burkhart finished the tournament taking the final fourth spot. He is Hughesville’s first heavyweight ever to win a state medal.
A total of 27 wrestlers in our region have guaranteed themselves a medal for the upcoming state tournament.
