Four Tri-town wrestlers take top of podium, 6 advance to Regionals District 4 Class AA Tournament-top six advance to Regionals

By Staff | Mar 2, 2022

RUTH FRY/The Luminary Top-ranked Scott Johnson, of Muncy, won the district title in the 126-pound weight class and will advance to regionals this weekend in Williamsport. Above, Johnson in the semis works on taking down Dylan Granahan, of Benton.

Following this past weekend’s Class AA District tournament, six local wrestlers earned their spot at this weekend’s Northeast Regionals in Williamsport after placing in the top six.

Three Muncy grapplers will be moving on. All three had wrestled their way to the district finals, the most of any school. At 126, top-ranked Scott Johnson held on to capture the district title defeating Warrior Run’s Kaden Milheim by a decision of 6-3. Later Ty Nixon (160) stepped on to the mat to earn his title defeating Towanda’s Bryant Green in sudden victory. Austin Johnson (Hwy) took on Mifflinburg’s Emmanuel Ulrich to one point in the last few seconds, but Ulrich got the win edging Johnson by a decision of 4-3. No freshman heavyweight wrestler has ever placed first in states, and Austin Johnson still has the chance to be the first after next week’s Regional tournament where the top 4 finishers move on.

Montgomery’s Conner Harer, the No. 1 145-pounder in the state in Class AA, squared off against second-ranked Kaiden Wagner of Lewisburg. Harer previously wrestled Wagner at Cumberland Valley and took a 3-1 decision. In the District 4 title match, Harer earned an 11-3 major decision over Wagner. Following Harer’s bout, his teammate, Devon Deem, won at 152 pinning Athen’s Karter Rude in 3:01. Deem is senior and is Montgomery’s all-time program leader in wins.

Hughesville has one moving on to regionals this weekend after finishing third in the 132-pound weight class. Caiden Puderbach won by a 7-1 decision over Ethan Kolb of Benton.
