Montgomery soccer player scores goal No. 50; Muncy field hockey takes 2 no-score games

Meadowbrook 1

Owen Sherman recorded his 50th career goal as Montgomery’s boys soccer team defeated Meadowbrook Christian, 2-1. He’s just the second boys player in school history to reach the milestone and is second in career goals. Sherman scored both of Montgomery’s goals in the win.

Mifflinburg 5, Hughesville 2

Sam Haddon and Jeff Fenstermacher both scored a goal in their 5-2 loss to the Wildcats. M-Dylan Siegel, 38:16. M-Collen Dreese (Siegel), 34:04. M-Dreese (Warrick Bradley), 14:20. M-Siegel, 13:56. Columbia, 0

Selah Persing scored twice with assists by Madeleine Boerckel. Boerckel also had a goal with an assist from Abielle Niedermyer. Lacy Eckard scored the final goal as Niedermyer assisted.

Muncy 7, Warrior Run 0

Muncy defeated Warrior Run 7-0. Madeleine Boerckel scored a late second quarter goal with an assist from Abielle Niedermyer to begin the Indians’ offensive drive. Grace Hogan and Boerckel, assisted by Selah Persing, followed up with a goal each in the third quarter. And, the Indians had four fourth quarter goals on corners: Persing, Boerckel, and Rosalie Zalonis picked up two, one assisted by Niedermyer. Goalkeepers Madilyn Schoonmaker and Lillian Wheeler recorded a shutout. 

Midd-West 4, Muncy 1

Muncy lost 1-4 to Midd-West. The Mustangs’ Abby Benner scored early in the first quarter assisted by Bailey McCoy, but the Indians were able to hold them off until halfway through the third quarter when Benner scored again with another McCoy assist. Muncy’s Rosalie Zalonis countered with a direct corner shot assisted by Selah Persing. Kylie Brown and Maesyn Franquet clinched the win for the Mustangs with two fourth quarter goals assisted by McCoy.

Hughesville 5, Loyalsock 0

Hughesville’s Annaka Bruder won No. 2 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-4, over Caroline Crawford. The Spartans are undefeated so far with 13 wins. SINGLES 1. Sarah Buck (H) def.
