Second Annual Polar Bear Plunge feb. 14

The Kiwanis Winterfest will be held at Camp Brule’ near Forksville, off Route 154 north of Estella. on Saturday Feb. 14. This one-day festival features indoor and outdoor activities, demonstrations and food concession.

This is the second year for the Polar Bear Plunge in the lake, which takes place at noon. Participants will need to be sponsored and must be registered by 11:30 a.m. Bears are allowed to plunge in costume. The Kiwanis have partnered with AAA Travel to give away a trip for two to one of the lucky plungers.

A 50-mile cross country sled dog race will start at 9 a.m. with good snow and trail conditions. The drivers will do one fifty mile loop with an eight-dog team pulling their sleds. They will start and finish at Camp Brule’. Finish time is 4-5 p.m. The 25 mile race will start as soon as the first race is out of the gates. Sprint races and skijoring races will follow. If there is no snow for the races we plan to hold several short dry land races. Check with us closer to race date for more information on this.

There will be horse drawn sleigh rides available and if no snow there will be buggy ride.

Ice carvers will be carving interesting sculptures. Other outdoor activities include an ice fishing derby starting at 7 a.m., cross country ski race, snow shoe race, please bring your skis and snow shoes. Inter tube races, snow sculpturing. If there is no snow we will improvise, and no iceno ice fishing, the snowshoe races will be shoe box races, cross country ski races become relay races etc. Register for all events at Pancost Hall, and please dress warm so you will be comfortable outdoors. At Pancost Hall you will also find art, hand made items, vendors and displays. Kids can make a picture and enter it in the Clothesline Art Show.

The Kiwanis Club concession will offer hot and delicious breakfast and lunch food, starting at 7 a.m. Admission is $5 for 13 and older, children 12 and under are free
