Penn State Cooperative Extension will be holding workshops on backyard composting at the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office, 542 County Farm Rd., Ste 206, Montoursville.

The workshops will be presented by the Penn State Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, and will cover the benefits of composting, factors needed for successful composting, compost troubleshooting and other aspects of composting.

This will be the last year that participants will be able to receive a free compost bin at the end of the session (one bin per household). Contact the Lycoming County Extension Office to register to attend one of the workshops at (570) 433-3040.

Workshops are offered at the following dates and times are Tuesday, March 24, 6:30-8 p.m.; Thursday, March 26, 2-3:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 22, 6:30-8 p.m.; Wednesday, April 25, 9-10:30 a.m.; Thursday, May 7, 2-3:30 p.m.; Monday, May 11, 6:30-8 p.m.

The workshop is sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Lycoming County Master Gardeners in cooperation with Pennsylvania DEP. There is no registration fee.
