hosts boating safety class

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a one-day boating safety class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at PPL’s Montour Environmental Preserve.

The class will provide useful information to both new and experienced boaters. Course topics include types and uses of boats, boating laws, personal safety equipment, safe boat handling, navigation, boating problems and much more. Those who successfully complete the course will receive a boating safety education certificate, which is required for all operators of personal watercraft and those born after Jan. 1, 1982, who operate motorboats of more than 25 horsepower.

There is a course fee of $10. In addition, the book costs $10 as well, although only one per family is required. The course will be held at the environmental education center. Please bring a lunch.
