Montgomery graduate accepts nomination to West Point

HUGHESVILLE – Already, recent graduate, John M. Goetz, son of Michael and Mary Ann Goetz of Montgomery, has a long list of credentials.

He has accepted a nomination from the Honorable Congressman Thomas A. Marino to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York located on the west bank of the Hudson River

A recent graduate of Montgomery Area High School, he was the Class of 2012 President for three years, and the Student Council President for two. He held leadership positions in various school clubs and was the captain of the varsity soccer and varsity wrestling teams.

In his senior year, Goetz was named to the Heartland Conference All-Star Team as midfielder in soccer and 220 pound weight class wrestler, as well as being selected as the first pick to PIAA District IV All-Academic Wrestling Team. This led him to a leading place on the PA Wrestling Coaches’ Association All-State Academic First Team. During wrestling season, he was Champion and Outstanding Wrestler at the Selinsgrove Holiday tournament, as well as West Sectional champion and PIAA Northeast Regional Qualifier.

He is the starting third baseman for the varsity baseball team, which won the District IV Class A championship and, at the time of this press release, a spot in the final four of the state championship. A three sport varsity athlete, John Goetz was named Montgomery’s 2012 Student of the Year, volunteered with the Maximus Brothers and Sisters organization and the Lycoming County Police Camp Cadet summer camp. He received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, the Carl E. Stotz Little League Scholarship, the Honorable Senator Gene Yaw Good Citizen Award, and the Best Buy Scholars Scholarship.
