Third grade Ashkar Elementary Students are getting ready to start their laps at the annual Race For Education event on Friday morning, October 5, at the Hughesville High School Track.

HUGHESVILLE – Rock and Race was the 2012 theme for Ashkar Elementary’s Race For Education held on Friday, October 5 at Hughesville High School’s track field. The event itself is not only a lot of fun for the students, but promotes exercise, and involves participation from parents, families, and the Ashkar community.

The goal was to raise $24,000 school-wide. All of the proceeds will be used by the Ashkar PTA to provide special programs and activities during the school year. This year’s Principal’s Challenge was a Rock Concert performed by Principal Sherry Cowburn.

Praising the efforts of the students, parents, and staff, Principal Cowburn commented, “This fundraiser is more than a school event, it is a community event showing a true commitment to the education and well being of our Ashkar Stars.”
