Mario hits Hughesville
HUGHESVILLE – On Wednesday, November 13, the Hughesville High School Production Club (VPC), and advisor, Mr. Steven Renn, held their First Annual “Super Smash Bros. Melee” tournament in the Hughesville High School’s auditorium.
They used four different screens for the preliminary matches, and for the final match, they used “the big screen” as everyone sat and watched. SSB Melee is a video game where fantasy characters such as Mario and Luigi battle on a stage trying to knock each other off the stage using items and powers.
The tournament had 41 students and faculty playing the competition. VPC club President John Lumbard said, “We’re planning on doing other tournaments this year using other video games such as ‘Mario Kart Double Dash’ and we are open to ideas of other video games.” Brock Woodling was credited for the idea of the tournament and setting up the whole event.
During the event the club sold pizza and “Falcon Punch” which is the name of one of the characters in the game. Winner of the tournament was Coleman Wolfe, a senior who won fifty dollars. Eighth grader, Olivia Karschner said, “I had a blast and can’t wait until the next one.” The club made over $100, and the money will go towards new equipment for the club.
