FBLA raised funds for local food drives and qualifIies for states

These students from the Muncy FBLA raised $632 for the Touch-A-Heart program and collected 830 canned goods from the high school for the Son-Light House. They will also be going to the FBLA state conference in April.
MUNCY – ‘Tis the time for giving, and Muncy HS FBLA continues to give! For the third year, FBLA held a dance for the student body grades 9-12 with all proceeds going towards the Touch-A-Heart Foundation in Muncy. Ticket sales raised $381, and the faculty and staff at the high school donated $251 through their “Casual for a Cause” program.
Overall, $632 was donated to Touch-A-Heart to purchase Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children in the community. In addition to the dance, Muncy FBLA held its annual canned food drive that was held in both the high school and the elementary school.
In the high school, the first period class that brought in the most goods won an ice cream sundae party. Similarly, in the elementary school, the grade that brought in the most canned goods received a prize decided by that grade’s teacher.
Furthermore, the food drive surpassed the goal of 800 cans set by Muncy FBLA by collecting over 830 canned goods from the high school alone. All of these items were donated to the Son Light House. The elementary school donated 578 canned goods that went towards providing 20 families in the school district with a Thanksgiving Dinner.
Weis Markets in Muncy graciously donated $250 dollars worth of gift cards to give to families in the community to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving. While all these projects were happening, Muncy FBLA members participated in volunteering at the First United Methodist Church in Muncy at a “Good N Plenty” dinner. Members helped to clean up and serve food to those purchasing a dinner. “Overall, the Muncy FBLA expanded its community service projects to benefit the community during this holiday season,” reported advisor, Heather Zimmerman.
