CAROL SHETLER/The Luminary "The Village Blacksmith" quilt penned with the names of 41 local blacksmiths was the favorite of these boys from Mrs. Olshefskie's sixth grade class at Ashkar Elementary School in Hughesville.
CAROL SHETLER/The Luminary Depicting several sites in Moreland Township, a threesome of girls picked this piece as their favorite quilt during a presentation in Mrs. Olshefskie's sixth grade class at Ashkar Elementary School in Hughesville.

Students in Mrs. Olshefskie’s sixth grade class at Ashkar Elementary School currently studying local history, learned how a woman combines history with quilt making.

From her collection, Carol Sones Shetler chose six pieces for a show and tell. Each depicted a subject including the Moreland Township’s 200th anniversary in 2013, The Village Blacksmith, Grist Mills, the Monarch Moose, Winter in Woolrich, plus a tribute to Civil War soldiers in the quilter’s family.

Following the presentation of the story quilts, students chose their favorite piece and posed for pictures.
