MUNCY – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and Safe Kids PA Lycoming County Partner, and the Highway Safety Network welcomed 96 students at Ward L. Myers Elementary school last week. On Wednesday, May 8, 96 students rode their bikes to school.

“It was a huge success,” said Kimberly Smith, Safety Press Officer with PennDot in Montoursville. “Most kids had their own helmets which we inspected for damage, and we made sure they had a proper fit and were wearing them correctly.”

Safe Kids Lycoming County Partner also provided new helmets to 19 students who rode their bikes without a helmet, or had a damaged or ill-fitted one according to Smith.

Every student who visited with the information table, received free bicycle safety information and stickers.

The event took place on International Bike to School Day.
