Pet Peeve for the week: Men or women who spit or burp in public. Helloooo! The rest of us can see and hear you!!

Once again the Hughesville varsity football team remains undefeated with a 35-12 win over previously unbeaten Shikellamy. This week’s game will be against Danville, beginning at 7 p.m. and it is also homecoming. The homecoming parade, showcasing the nominated princesses and queens, begins at 5:50 p.m. and runs from the Firehall to the High School.

The Princess candidates are: Emily Aderhold, Angela DiRocco, Kelsie Ditzler, Page Fortin, Cassidy Merrifield, Olivia Porter, Allison Rabb and Ivy Spako. The Queen candidates are: Erika Allegrucci, Lindsay Carroll, Amanda Elliott, Jenna Lorson, Maja Ostojic and Alyssa Rogers. Congratulations and good luck to all the candidates!

And don’t forget after every home football game, the Hughesville Friends Church hosts “The Fifth Quarter”, which is a time when high school students get together to socialize and play exciting and fun games. It’s truly a great time for the students and runs immediately following the football game until 11:30 p.m.

A Pumpkin Festival will be held October 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. at the Unityville Volunteer Fire Company.

The Sonestown Heritage Festival will be held October 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. – ? Vendor space is available for $25. Call 482-2971 or 482-3071 for more information.

A fish supper will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, serving family style at the Sugarloaf School Memorial Building in Benton, mile south off Route 118 at Grassmere from 3-7 p.m. Take outs are available.

On Sunday, October 18, the youth at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hughesville will be hosting a spaghetti dinner for the congregation and community beginning at 12 noon.

The Greater Hughesville Business Association will once again be sponsoring the annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 31. The parade forms at the high school parking lot at 5 p.m. and moves at 5:30 p.m., ending at the firehall. Anyone wishing to enter a float or walk in the parade is welcome. Trick or Treating will take place that evening from 6-8 p.m. in the borough.
