Fun Fact for the week: The first Christmas card was created in 1843 on the instructions of an Englishman, Sir Henry Cole. The card was designed by J. C. Horsley and sold 1000 copies in London.

Pet Peeve for the week: This week I don’t actually have a “pet peeve”, but more of an apprehension. My husband has placed a mystery Christmas present under our tree. He says it something he picked out for the entire family. I’m suspicious because it’s a rather large package and he already has it wrapped; something he usually waits until the day before Christmas to do.

Hughesville events

Trinity Lutheran Church in Hughesville will present its annual Christmas cantata on Sunday, December 20 during the 10:30 service. Everyone is welcome to attend this joyful celebration of the season.

Open library at Carl G. Renn Elementary School in Lairdsville every Thursday evening 6-7 p.m.

The Hughesville Garden Club Christmas dinner will be held on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church. Reservations required by Dec. 2. Call 584-3202. Guests welcome. Program will be Christmas entertainment by Jim Lundy.

All area teens are invited every Sunday night from 6-7:30 p.m. to Youth Impact at Bible Baptist Church in Huntersville. Fun activities great food and a challenge from God’s Word will be presented. For more information call Pastor Rob McKenzie at 435-3440.
