Last month, there were signs at the Muncy Valley Hospital announcing its annual lawn party. Three years ago, I had the pleasure of attending that party with my mom, who was a resident at the skilled nursing unit there. As she put on her sunhat and dark glasses, and tucked a few dollars into my pocket, she made her intentions known first stop: the ice cream stand for a dish of teaberry, then to the French fry stand for some homemade fries, followed by a BBQ sandwich. I didn’t argue about the “dessert first” request. That’s how it rolls down at the nursing home!
