Hughesville events

The Back-To-School-Barbeque Picnic will be held on Thursday, August 26 on the playground of Ashkar Elementary School. Tours of classrooms and meet the teacher will be from 5:30-6 p.m. The picnic will begin at 6 p.m. There will be games, music and raffle drawings. Bring a chair or blanket.

Shooting Stars ASA Fastpitch Softball tryouts will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 9 a.m. at the Hughesville High School Softball Fields. Tryouts are for 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U teams. For more information, call Chris Glenn at 447-7687.

The Hughesville Senior Citizens will meet at Hughesville Baptist church on Friday, August 27 at noon for a picnic with baked ham. Bring a dish to pass and tableware. Members must bring their fee to purchase tickets for the catered meal next month.

A Memorial service honoring those at rest in the Webster Cemetery, adjoining the Huntersville United Methodist Church will be held on Sunday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. A light luncheon will be provided following the service.

TOPS Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets at the Evangelical Friends Church in Hughesville every Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. Call 435-2902 or 584-4530 for more information.

All area teens are invited every Sunday night from 6-7:30 p.m. to Youth Impact at Bible Baptist church in Huntersville. Exciting fun activities, great food and a challenge from God’s Word will be presented. For more information, call Pastor Rob McKenzie at 435-3440.

Congratulations to Erich and Desiree (Hock) Doebler of Muncy Valley, on the birth of their daughter, Emmalynne Rayna Doebler, who was born on Saturday, August 21. Emmalynne weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19-1/2 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Jim and Randi Doebler, Muncy Valley. Maternal grandparents are Earl Hock of Winfield and Melanie Woolsey of Milton.

Congratulations to Air Force Airman Paul D. Griffith who recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
