Seminar planned to safeguard residents from con artists
MUNCY – Home improvement rip-offs, foreign lottery schemes, telemarketing fraud and sweepstakes scams are all crimes borough police Chief Richard J. Sutton said his area’s residents are invited to learn about during a Sept. 8 seminar at the Ward L. Myers Elementary School.
Sponsored by the state Attorney General’s office in conjunction with borough police, Sutton said the hour-long seminar will be at 7 p.m.
Sutton said anyone in the Muncy area is invited, especially senior citizens, whom he believes can benefit the most by attending.
“Pennsylvania is in the top third of the senior population in the country,” he said. “There’s so many rip-off crimes that affect the elderly.”
Sutton said the seminar’s main speaker, Joyce O’Brien of the attorney general’s office, specializes in senior crime and elderly abuse prevention.
