A Tribute to the “Radio Corral”
The Montgomery Area Historical Society and members of the Dean McNett Family have joined to offer an afternoon of presentations related to Bob and Dean McNett’s Park, the site of the “Radio Corral” concerts near Montgomery. The event will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company, located just west of Montgomery on Route 54.
Produced between 1950 and 1970 by brothers Bob and Dean McNett, the shows at the Radio Corral featured singers of country music from Nashville and Hollywood as well as Bob and Dean themselves, who added their own brand of comedy to their musical performances. The popularity of the shows attracted overflowing crowds to this outdoor stage, which was nestled in the woods between Montgomery and Route 15.
As a tribute to these loyal fans, Dean’s wife, Dot, and her two sons, Tim and Shawn, are offering this free presentation, which will include musical selections from the original Radio Corral musical acts. Performing these songs will be the McNett Country Band, whose members include Tim and Shawn McNett, Dave Preston, Jimmy Lee, Karen Nogle, and Don Clark, one of the original members of the Bob and Dean’s band. Also, Connie Rose the daughter of Jim and Jane Claar, the original owners of the Radio Corral will perform.
No admission will be charged at this event; however, donations benefiting the Montgomery Area Historical Society and the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company would be appreciated. The fire company will be serving concessions throughout the afternoon. No alcohol or smoking will be permitted. Please plan to arrive early; doors will open at 1:00 p.m. and seating is limited. Please come and enjoy the stories and music related to the history of the “Radio Corral”.
