Letter carriers set food drive for May 14

By Staff | May 10, 2011

MUNCY- Muncy Postmaster, Maggie Magagna has announced that Saturday, May 14 will be the Letter Carriers’ National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. For 19 straight years employees and customers nationally have contributed over one billion pounds of non-perishable food since the program began in 1993. The annual food drive has become the nation’s largest one-day effort to collect food for distribution to the less fortunate.

To make a difference in helping to feed America’s hungry, customers are asked to leave non-perishable food items by their mail boxes. These items will then be distributed through the local food bank and soup kitchens. Recent government statistics show that today 17 million or one in four children in the United States is struggling with hunger.
