Hughesville events

On Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30, the Hughesville Spartan Cheerleaders will be holding a Yard Sale at Bethany Methodist Church in Hughesville starting at 8 a.. There will be many valuable treasures so come out and find yours!

There will be a fundraiser held for Dakota, a 6 year old with cerebral palsy, at the Hughesville Fire Hall on Saturday, July 30 from 7-11 p.m. For tickets please call Betsy Temple at 244-1493 or Bertha Fry at 971-0179. Donations can also be made at www.reaachingforthestarts.ca.

The Farragut United Methodist Church hosts its monthly First Tuesday Fellowship Dinner on August 2 from 5:30-7 p.m. Free-will donations are accepted. The church is located on Rte. 864 near the intersection of Rte. 87.

East Lycoming School District Registration for new students entering K-6 for the 2011-2012 school year will take place on Thursday, August 4 from 8 a.m. 2 p.m. This is for students who are no already registered. Kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2011. Parents are required to bring child’s birth certificate, child’s Social Security Number, record of immunizations (shots) and proof of residency (lease/rental agreement/utility/phone bill, etc.). If August 4 does not work for you please call the Ashkar office at 584-5121.

St. John Lutheran Church of Gordner’s Grove in Unityville will be holding a Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 13 at 2 p.m. The Greenwood Valley Boys will be featured. Tickets are required in advance by calling 458-5237, 458-6983, 458-6359 or 482-2516.

The Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts 2011 season is in full swing with many exciting events taking place throughout the summer. On Thurs., Fri, and Sat., July 28, 29 & 30 at 8 p.m. the ETC will present “Front Porch”, an improvised play that explores the rhythm of summers in an Eagles Mere Victorian Cottage over the course of several generations of a family. The play will offer a glimpse of the past as it was experienced in Eagles Mere.

The Philadelphia Trio will offer a program of music by Saint-Saens and Dvorak as well as the traditional potpourri of lighter works on Saturday, August 6 at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, August 7 at 8 p.m., “Behind the Curtain: A Judy Garland Tribute will be presented by the musical duo Kate Manning and pianist Jesse Gelber who return to Eagles Mere this season with a brand new Judy Garland tribute.

Brain/Food will be held on Thursday, August 11 at 6 p.m. in the Community Hall. A potluck dinner followed by a book discussion.

On Saturday, August 20 at 8 p.m. the Keystone Jazz Group will perform in a tribute to the group’s founder, the late Derf Nolde. It plans to be a very special evening.

Finally on Sunday, August 21 at 4 p.m. Music In The Mountains. The young and talented students of Debby Reeder and Barbara Sonies present their annual classical concert.
