Fun Fact For The Week October holds many events and holidays. Columbus Day is celebrated the second Monday in October, and CanadianThanksgiving is also celebrated on this day. This is also the month where football dominates and hockey season begins, but it will most likely be the World Series that steals the spotlight. Plus, free rural delivery of the mail began on October 1, 1896.

Congratulations to those high school girls who will make up the Homecoming Court at this week’s varsity football game when the Spartans will battle against Athens. Be sure to come out and show your Spartan spirit! After the game students in grades 7th-12th are all invited to the “Fifth Quarter” at the Friends Church on Third Street. Plenty of snacks, sodas and games. The event lasts until 11:30 p.m. For questions call 584-2686.
All area women are invited to attend this fall’s Women2Women Event on September 29,at 7 p.m. at the Rock Run Church on Route 220 in Muncy Valley. The East Lycoming Historical Society will host displays by the PA Mountain Laurel Tole Painting Guild throughout October. Demonstrations will be on Wednesdays between 1-4 p.m; and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum on Main St. in Hughesville.
