Pet Peeve For The Week: People who still keep talking on their cell phones even after the flight attendant has politely asked them to turn it off! Believe me, unless you’re the ruler of the free world your call is not that important!!

Hughesville events:

East Lycoming Democrats will meet Thursday, October 27, at 7p.m. at the “Not Just A Bean Cafe” on Main Street in. New comers are welcome to attend.Agenda includes planning activities for the “Get Out The Vote” weekend prior to Election day onNovember 8th election. For information call Alison Rupert at 584-2653.

Hughesville Senior Citizens will meet at theHughesville Baptist Church on Friday, October 28, at noon for a tureen meal. Bring a dish to pass and tableware. Bring a food item for bingo. A meeting will follow. Tickets must be obtained for the November catered meal.

Hughesville Spartan Cheerleaders will be taking part in the “Make Strides to End Breast Cancer” walk which will take place on Saturday, October 29 at Indian Park in Montoursville. Everyone is invited to participate in this worthwhile event. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, October 29 the third annual Great Commission 5K Run/Walk will be held at the Hughesville Friends Church on Third Street in Hughesville. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

The Annual Hughesville Halloween Parade will take place on Monday, October 31 from 5:30-6 p.m., beginning at the High School and ending at the Fire Station. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. Trick or Treating will take place immediately afterwards from 6-8 p.m. If you wish to participate, turn on your porch light.

Hughesville Borough residents can start taking their leaves between the curb and the sidewalk starting November 1, 2011. Pick-up will be between the hours of 8 a.m. 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Crews will not pick up brush and there will be no alley pick-ups.

It is time for the 2012 Relay for Life of Tri-Town Kickoff.Please join us on November 2, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the Hughesville Fire Hall. We will take time to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back.We are looking for committee members, new teams and sponsors.

The 16thAnnual Saint Nick’s Novelties Craft Show will be held on Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hughesville High School. Over 100 vendors will attend, plus raffles and cafeteria style lunches.

The East Lycoming Historical Society will host displays by the PA Mountain Laurel Tole Painting Guild throughout October. Demonstrations will be on Wednesdays between 1-4 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. at the museum on Main Street in Hughesville.
