Just a reminder that the Muncy Library has some special gardening programs coming up soon. Learn about pest controls from the Master Gardeners and buy some perennials for your own garden from the Muncy Herb Guild. They take great care of them because the ones I bought from them last year are now thriving in my backyard, especially the wild strawberry plant and the horseradish (which is still in its container).

The Muncy Garden Club was also quite busy Saturday morning doing some cleaning up and planting flowers. I was able to help clear some weeds at the Muncy pool, which is going to open soon and has brand new lights installed for the summer season.

Don’t miss Muncy’s Last Friday on the 25th. The Muncy Historical Society is planning a nice celebration for all alumni with a “Walk Down Memory Lane” as well as unveiling an oral history project spanning eight decades.

And finally, do have a safe and wonderful Memorial holiday. My husband and I are planning a camping trip to Frances Slocum State Park, close to Wilkes-Barre. And because of the holiday, we will be closed on Monday. So the next issue of The Luminary will be out on Thursday, May 31.

May 24 What pest is pestering your garden? Join Master Gardener Helen Grosso at the Muncy Library from 6:30 to 7:30 for a fun and informative workshop about bacteria, fungi, insects and other harmful critters to plants.

May 25 Alumni Friday for Muncy’s Last Friday. Sidewalk art and live music from 5 to 8 p.m.

Blood Drive May 25, 11-4, Lycoming Mall, 300 Lycoming Mall Circle, Pennsdale

May 28 Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. to be organized behind Geringer Hall.

Sat. June 2 Birding the East Branch, a presentation about summer birds at the Montour Preserve. Walk along a trail at an easy pace through open fields, woodlands, grasslands and past wetlands. Meet at the East Branch Recreation area at 9:30 a.m. located on Rt. 44. Call 437-3131 for directions and to register.

Herb and plant sale from Muncy Herb Guild’s Gardens at the Muncy Library on June 2 from 9 to 4. All proceeds will benefit the library.

June 5 Pool Party for Seniors at YMCA community Room, Muncy, 50 Fitness Drive. For more information call 546-2542.

June 8 and 9 there will be a community yard sale at the Vineyard Community Activity Center located at the corner of Sherman and High Streets, Muncy. To participate call 546-0633 and leave message. Crafters also invited. Small donation requested for table and space. Youth with staff will grill burgers and hot dogs and sell beverages and candy bars.
