Muncy locals

By Staff | Jun 5, 2012

I can’t say enough about the Girls on the Run program. It is a healthy program established for young adolescent girls to teach them self respect and establish a healthy lifestyle. The curriculum addresses many aspects of a girl’s development – physical, emotional, mental and social well-being and to avoid risky behaviors. Sign up is now, so act quickly because only 30 girls will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Also on Monday the Muncy Public Library began their 10 week summer reading program. All ages up to 17 can participate. Each child who registers will receive a “Dream Big” packet of materials which includes a book log and a list of prizes. You can call the library for more information at 546-5014. A special guest will be featured in June, artist Aleta Wynn Yarrow who will offer a “Help Draw a Fantasy Animal” activity for children ages 6 to 11.

I was so impressed with the turnout this year despite the heavy rainstorms for the Relay for Life. The entire East Lycoming community was well represented and much gratitude is so deserving to the many volunteers who pulled resources and talents together to fight against cancer.
