Muncy locals
Despite the downpours, Saturday was a very pleasant day. I started out on a motorcycle ride to Montgomery where I met my father who participated in a Motorcycle Ride fundraiser benefit for Sunnybrook Meadows Therapeutic Riding Club. They had something different this year. It was a Scrabble Scramble instead of the usual Poker Run. The volunteers worked hard to organize a silent auction, live music and breakfast for the riders. (I will try not to show my mother dad’s new motorcycle.)
Around 12:30 p.m. my husband, with his camera, went to the American Legion Post 268 in Muncy where they were having a car show and pig roast. Located behind Fox’s Restaurant on Legion Road, this huge event held out until the rain started. When we arrived several hundred people were milling about trying to decide which car to vote for as their favorite one, thus becoming The People’s Choice award. I met Ken Lowe who showed me the big trophy as he was having a good time handing out prizes and working the microphone and large speaker system. I loved his choice in music in between his announcement winners before the ballot count. I was also impressed with the categories, mostly American cars that were classic, some antiques and even motorcycles. I really liked the cars from the 50’s, and remember seeing photos of my parents with cars like that when they were young. A striking blue Thunderbird convertible caught my eye with whitewall tires. And some, I recognized from movies. Fun. There is no other word to describe this event. Everyone was having fun. It is held every year, and I recommend to check it out next August. It will be their 13th year.
