Hughesville locals
Everywhere I look there seem to be countdowns so many days till this event, so many hours till the weekend, so many minutes on the game clock. Although I closed last week’s column that way, I decided that with such glorious fall weather, I’m going to concentrate on the moment, hour, or day at hand and just enjoy what Mother Nature is displaying right now!
The HHS Homecoming parade, ceremony, and football game were certainly events to remember. The band and the Homecoming court presented a delightful parade, followed by this year’s band show “The Mask of Zorro”. After the members of the Homecoming court were introduced, the crowd of parents, fans, and alumni were treated to a rare occurrence: as a result of a tie in the voting, two girls were crowned as Homecoming Queen for 2012!
Congratulations to Miss Kelli Yonkin, HHS 2012 Homecoming Princess, and to Miss Hannah Merrifield and Miss Denay Wodrig, HHS 2012 Homecoming Queens.
Congratulations are also in order for the newest inductees into the HHS Athletic Hall of Fame, Lee Hall, Mike Fought, and Harry Fry (posthumously) and to their families. They were honored during the halftime spot on Friday evening. The HHS football team put a perfect cap on all the evening’s festivities by posting an upset win against North Penn. It was truly a great night for all involved.
The Hughesville Library has its monthly Pre-school Story Hour scheduled for Friday, October 12. Mrs. Sue Murray will present stories and crafts with an autumn theme. Please call the library at 584-3762 to register your child. For adults and older, accompanied children, Wes Egli will present a program about feeding wild birds in your backyard on October 16. Also, stop in to see the colorful display of artworks presented by the Pa. Mountain Laurel Decorative Painters. Please be aware that the Hughesville Library will be closed on Monday, October 8 for the staff to attend a training session at the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport.
“Enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage on North Mountain while you take a drive to Eagles Mere for the annual celebration of Planes, Trains, and Antique Automobiles taking place this Saturday in Eagles Mere. The museum will have special displays and fun for everyone, shops will feature items evoking transportation in earlier times, and there will be biplanes aloft.”
Keep watching for details on the Greater Hughesville Business Association’s “Five to Drive” promotion for holiday shopping. It’s fun to see all the many things that are available from our local merchants.
