Hughesville locals

By Staff | Oct 23, 2012

It is important that I start out with a correction to some mis-information about the Hughesville High School Band fund-raiser. The Gift-card Bingo event will be held this coming Sunday, not Saturday! The doors to the HHS cafeteria will open on Sunday, October 28 at 12:30 and bingo games start at 2 p.m. Prizes will consist of gift-cards in various amounts from many local retail and grocery stores. You can win cards for yourself or to use as gifts while you help support these hard-working student musicians.

A fun weekend in Lairdsville begins on Friday, October 26 and continues through Saturday with the Annual Fall Festival. Among the many activities are food and craft vendors, a cake-decorating contest, evening musical entertainment, plus a parade on Saturday at 4:00. The HHS Spartan Marching Band will march in support of the volunteer fire company which sponsors the festival.

There is still time to visit the Hughesville Area Public Library to view the fascinating display of artwork by the Mountain Laurel Decorative Painters. Tole painting can turn the most common items into beautiful art. See the plates, flower pots, tools, and even a duck decoy that have been painted by these local artisans. The display will be at HAPL until the end of the month. Another good reason to visit the library during October is the 50% off on overdue fines! If you’ve been putting off clearing overdue charges from your library card, this is the time to get it done. You can save some money and help the library at the same time!

Do you have your Halloween costume ready? I’ve been spending some hours at my sewing machine getting my grand-daughter’s outfit put together, and am anxious to see how she likes it! Enjoy this extended mild autumn weather! Get outside and soak up the sunshine! We are looking forward to the Halloween parade.
