Annual Chorus Festival to feature seven schools

MUNCY – The 33rd Annual Lycoming County Junior High Chorus Festival will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 at Muncy Junior-Senior High School. This festival, sponsored by the Lycoming County Choral Director’s Association, will include nearly one-hundred seventh, eighth and ninth grade students from the following schools: Hughesville, Jersey Shore, Loyalsock, Montgomery, Muncy Montoursville and St. John Neumann. These students will rehearse throughout the day in preparation for the festival concert to be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Selections for the concert include Shoshone Love Song by Emerson, Something Told the Wild Geese by Porterfield, Give Us Hope by Papoulis and Bonse Aba arranged by Johnson.

Guest Conductor for the 33rd Annual County Junior High Chorus Festival is Dr. Kristen A. Albert. Dr. Albert recently retired this past July from West Chester University where she served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Music Education. She specialized in choral methodology, Kodly methodology, electronic portfolio development, and reflective practice for pre-service music educators. Dr. Albert has extensive experience in many facets of music education having served as an educator in the Pennsylvania public schools for seventeen years prior to her employment at West Chester University in 2001.

Dr. Albert holds degrees in Music Education, Secondary Counseling, and Educational Leadership from Millersville University, Shippensburg University, and the University of Delaware, respectively. She also holds Kodaly Certification, endorsed by the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.

Dr. Albert is now the President of Turning Points, LLC, an educational coaching firm specializing in improving teacher effectiveness and student learning through personalized professional development for teachers. In her words: “I support teachers in becoming their best, because our children deserve the best.” The public is cordially invited to attend this concert.
